Wafaa Bilal Lecture Questions/ Response

How does your study of geography inform your art?

What are your expectations from your students? How do you help them find what their passions are? You set the bar high when it comes to expectations, I think.

I really enjoyed the Wafaa Bilal lecture, it was interesting and kept my attention. I had already done a little research on Bilal so I knew about the projects he had done, but I learned so much more about what it was like for him doing these projects. He deals with a lot of media scutiny, threats, and other obstacles. If I were to describe the core of Bilal's practice in three words it would be, political, body, and shock. My favorite quote of the lecture was Bilal telling about how he called Peta and asked " Is there a PETA for Iraqi's." and then they hung up on him. I would have have to say that both Domestic Tension and And Counting are the most powerful of his pieces to me. I would say that my first question was answered indirectly but not the second one.
